I hit something on the highway....?

I hit something on the highway today, I don't know what but it must have been pretty big. I dont think it was a pothole. Anyways I have severe damage to my drivers side, side skirt and quarter panel. Will my insurance cover this damage? I was thinking about just taking the side skirt off since its not too important and on there just for looks.
